Thermal Label Printers
Thermal label printers provide reliable, high-quality printing for barcodes, shipping labels and product identification. Businesses across logistics, manufacturing, retail and healthcare rely on thermal printing technology to maintain accurate labelling and efficient operations.
Why Choose A Thermal Printer For Your Labelling Application?
High Reliability - most manufacturers offer a standard 2 year warranty, the mostly mechanical approach reduces failure opportunities.
Lightning Fast Print Speeds - up to 14 inches per second print speed on industrial models.
Low Maintenance - most major manufacturers offer a 1 million inch/1 year warranty on consumables such as printheads.
Consistent Barcode Quality - once setup correctly for your media you can expect the same high quality print every time.
Versatility - multiple form factors are available to suit most businesses spaces and labelling needs.
Direct Thermal VS Thermal Transfer
These are two different methods of creating an image using a thermal printer. Direct thermal printing uses a label with a special coating where no ribbon is required, these labels have a short shelf life and fade with exposure to heat and light over time. Thermal transfer is the correct choice for printing labels that need to last or withstand chemicals and the outdoors, created by transferring a wax/resin compound from a ribbon to a label. The resistance properties are defined by the label and ribbon material choice.
Key Differences Between Printer Types:
Direct thermal only printers don’t have a ribbon loading or drive system.
Thermal transfer label printers require a ribbon and labels to produce an image.
Direct thermal printers are cheaper than thermal transfer capable printers.
Thermal transfer barcode printers can print on direct thermal labels as well.
Thermal transfer ribbons protect the printhead increasing it’s usable life.
Thermal transfer labelling is suitable for much more applications including outdoors.
Mobile, Desktop and Industrial Printer Options
Mobile Thermal Label Printers
This tiny form factor of label printers are battery powered and direct thermal only. Suited for field service operations or where operators need to print labels quickly while on the go.
Desktop Thermal Label Printers
This small form factor of thermal label printer is perfect for light to medium volume printing operations where space is critical. Taking up half the desk space of a laser printer, direct thermal and thermal transfer options available as well as 5 inch diameter label roll capacity.
Industrial Label Printers
A tabletop form factor machine where reliability for high volume label printing applications is mandatory. Mostly made of metal with the highest print speeds on offer and the largest set of software features.
